The Old Lab
In a previous EagleSoft Labs (the blog) blog post a few months ago, I officially unveiled my personal EagleSoft Labs (the actual laboratory) workspace for electronics engineering work and detailed how I made a DIY solder fume extractor for it.

Gathering new hardware
Since assembling the laboratory workspace, I picked up some more hardware for the laboratory! Most of the finds were found at discount from Goodwill thrift stores, others won online in auctions for cheap at Shopgoodwill.com, or others snagged on Walmart after back-to-school sales clearance.

Silicon Soldering Mat
I was browsing Shopgoodwill.com randomly during late July and early August 2026 looking for bargains or interesting tech items, and stumbled across an OnLogic ML210G-10 industrial computer for auction. The computer looked unique, compact, and industrial strength for messy work environments. I decided to bid on it and would use it as a spare, dedicated laboratory computer if won. I did win it for $47 ($62.06 total with S&H/tax)!

Desk Mat
I installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on it, GQ-4x4 EPROM burner software, CAD/circuity designing software, Cura 3D Slicer software, Microsoft Office, web browsers, and other basic software on it. The computer will be meant for burning (E)EPROMs, slicing 3D prints, DAQ; viewing electronics schematics, written guides, and YouTube tutorials; and for other laboratory needs. If I ever buy a house and a dedicated basement car garage area for makerspace and electronics activities, this computer will be perfect for that basement workspace environment.
The computer is approximately the size of a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza box. I was thinking of giving it a nickname of Little Caesars (the pizza restaurant chain) due to the silver and orange color scheme, but this wasn't nerdy 🤓 or sci-fi enough for me, so I decided to name it Pizza Planet (the fictional restaurant/arcade from the Toy Story series). I added a Pen+Gear Notebook-styled mouse Desk Mat to it for $5 on clearance at Walmart. (Further details about this computer and setting it up in a future blog post).

Cricut Explore Air 2 (CXPL202) vinyl cutter
Most of my stickers I have made for my gaming computer case were made at the local hackespace using a Cricut vinyl cutter and sticker paper. I did recently learn that you can create PCB etching masks using vinyl and a Cricut machine. With wanting to create more sitckers on my own and PCB etching masks at home, I decided to pickup a Cricut Explore Air 2 (CXPL202) that I won on auction at Shopgoodwill for $26 (total $42.94 with S&H/tax).
I've read bad things about certain Cricut machines being registered and tied to Cricut Design Space software and your email account, and some machines being able to be remotely bricked 💀 as a nasty form of DRM on the 2nd-hand market if the two are separated/a new account is used on the machine. I'll probably have to hack around this if this does indeed happen. Further research and details on setting this up in a future blog post.
Silicon Soldering Mat
Also while browsing the local Goodwill thrift store, I did find a brand new unbranded magnetic silicon soldering mat for $5. I have always wanted one of these to add to my workbench!
Laboratory damages
With all of this new hardware acquired I needed to rewire and rearrange my EagleSoft Labs workbench table to make space for them. The table was a cheap, wide, foldable plastic table that I bought used from a co-worker at a past job. The previous owner used it for conventions as a crafts store front and left it outside exposed to the elements, so it had a lot of tree leaves in the underside, dirt, and rusting metal. Unfortunately, dumb, fat old me tried kneeling on the table top while rewiring the equipment, and the table got damaged from the total weight and buckled in! I immediately took all of the heavy and fragile equipment (3D printer) off and put it under the table until I could order a new, better table as a replacement. Remind me to never do that again on the new table!

Ordering a new table
(Romorgniz 71"W Gaming Desk
Model: XGBR-USCPDLED180LB)
For the Labor Day 2026 holiday weekend, I ordered a black Romorgniz 71"W Gaming Desk (Model: XGBR-USCPDLED180LB) table from Walmart. The new table is approximately the same size as the old table (only a few inches less wide and deep), but has better build quality and with more structural supports. It also includes 2 side hooks for hanging items, a side pouch for documents and other items, back wall supports, and even an RGB LED strip! I bought it new for $80 (a whopping $36.59 S&H/tax, total $116.58). I threw out the old table (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻.

Assembling the table was easy. It came in 3 wooden planks for the top desk area; a left, center, and right plank panel. The only difficult part was centering and aligning all 3 planks with the screw holes so that they would screw in. All other assembly steps were straightforward.
With the table assembled, I put my workspace back together while integrating the new hardware (OnLogic computer and related hardware, Cricut Explore Air 2, silicon soldering mat).

EagleSoft Labs is now put back together with the new desk and ready for more electronics work! The new desk looks awesome and is far more structurally stable. The new OnLogic computer will be very useful for (E)EPROM chip burning, Cura 3D slicing and 3D printing, CAD and electronics design work, and other lab computing tasks, as well as the Cricut being useful for designing original EagleSoft branded stickers and PCB etching vinyl masks.
Here's to a new grand re-opening of EagleSoft Labs 🦅🍻🛠!
